Drinking Water Education Program 
for Wisconsin Counties

The University of Wisconsin Extension offers a drinking water education program  for adults that combines the opportunity for testing private wells with an education program.  The program is offered throughout the year in various Wisconsin Counties.

Part 1:

You will take a well water sample from your private well  and submit it to the Environmental Task Force Laboratory for water testing before a specified due date.  A fee is charged for the water tests.  Contact the Environmental Task Force Lab or Chris Mechenich for prices.

Part 2:

Next you will attend an education program 4-6 weeks later, usually in the evening, to learn about water test results for your own well, as well as for the County in general.  The education program includes:
bulletan explanation of test results
bulletwell testing and maintenance information
bullethealth-related and aesthetic problems and solutions
bulleteducation about groundwater as a resource affected by human activities
bulletgroundwater protection practices

Outcomes:

By participating in this program, you should be able to:
bulletidentify water quality problems and potential corrective actions
bulletlearn the importance of well information and seek information about the construction of your own individual well
bulletidentify potential local sources of groundwater contamination
