Wild Parsnip designated as noxious weed

Mapping effort underway

Post Date:04/04/2017

DESIGNATION OF WILD PARSNIP (PASTINACA SATIVA) AS A NOXIOUS WEED WITHIN PORTAGE COUNTY

Portage County is authorized by WI State Statute 66.0407(1)(b) to designate any weed as noxious within County boundaries and wild parsnip creates health and ecological threats and is increasingly prevalent within the County. Wild parsnip is listed by the WI DNR as an invasive species with control encouraged by WI Administrative Rule NR 40. The County Land and Water Resource Management Plan lists as a priority action the control of invasive species.

All towns as well as individuals are now encouraged to help map the locations of wild parsnip.

Please see our Terrestrial Invasive Plant page for more information.
