Portage County Youth Risk Behavior Survey report
The second Portage County Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) was developed in 2018 by a partnership that included administration staff from all six high schools in Portage County and Portage County Health and Human Services - Division of Public Health. This report features 2018 YRBS aggregate data compiled from four public school districts and one parochial school system. This is the first time all high schools in Portage County completed the YRBS and will allow our community to examine changes related to youth behaviors since the last survey in 2015. This will also assist in developing and targeting interventions that can improve the lives of Portage County youth.
The Wisconsin Online YRBS is conducted as part of a national effort by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) to monitor health-risk behaviors of the nation’s students. The most significant causes of mortality and morbidity during youth and adulthood have been found to be related to these behaviors. The behaviors monitored by the Wisconsin YRBS include traffic safety; weapons and violence; suicide; tobacco use; alcohol and other drug use; sexual behavior; and diet, nutrition, and exercise.
