The Office of the Corporation Counsel provides legal counsel for the Portage County Executive, The Portage County Board of Supervisors, its committees, agencies, departments and elected and appointed officials. The Corporation Counsel reports to and is supervised by the County Executive. The Corporation Counsel office examines and reports liability for all claims filed against the County; drafts resolutions, ordinances, contracts and other necessary legal documents, prepares legal opinions and prosecutes and defends civil matters affecting the County. The office of the Corporation Counsel is dedicated to providing the highest quality legal counsel and representation at the most effective cost to County government. Its mission cannot be accomplished without expert assistance from staff as well as the departments involved, and the County Board as a whole. The office also provides representation in matters authorized by the following statutes:
