Mission:

To design and implement a long-term monitoring and assessment plan for groundwater quality and quantity for Portage County.

 

Long Term Goals:

I.                    Database

    1. Develop a system for confidentiality for those who want to remain anonymous. 
    2. Determine a list of parameters to include in database.

1.      Determine what data already exists and evaluate reliability of data.

2.      Determine parameters of major concern.

3.      Determine costs to continue monitoring various parameters.

    1. Determine how to link existing databases.
    2. Designate a database custodian.

II.                 Monitoring/Assessment Program

A.    Develop a database of existing information.

B.     Choose select monitoring points around the County (private and municipal wells, as well as surface water bodies) for long-term monitoring.

C.    Publish biannual or triannual report on the state of groundwater in Portage County.

D.    Form a technical review team to assess data and recommend future direction of monitoring/assessment program.

 

Starting Objectives:
bullet Determine available groundwater quality databases.
bullet Seek partners in project to secure funding sources.
bullet Decide type of information wanted from the database.
bullet Identify roles of CAS subcommittee members for completing project.

 

Membership:

 

Membership on all three subcommittees is open to any interested volunteer who is willing to actively participate in accomplishing the subcommittee's mission and activities. Persons interested in joining a subcommittee should ask the chairperson for permission to join. CAS consists of about ten members with technical backgrounds in soil and water.

 

Member Duties:

 

Member duties include attending meetings prepared, participating in accomplishing mission and activities, and recruiting new members.  Work products will be due one week before meetings.   

 

Meetings:

The Continuous Assessment Subcommittee will meet monthly for one hour at 5:00 pm at the Portage County Courthouse Annex (1462 Strongs Avenue, Stevens Point).  

Meetings are open to the public, so please join us and learn what we are doing to help manage groundwater.
