Mission: To provide access to groundwater information and a platform for public involvement in groundwater management decision-making.

 

Activities:

This Subcommittee has completed or is working on a variety of educational activities such as:
bulletauthored & distributed an Educational 4-Page Piece on the quality and quantity of Portage County groundwater
bulletdeveloped  a Slide Presentation on the current condition and management of Portage County groundwater to give at civic organizational meetings
bulletassembled a Groundwater Resource Guide containing publication listings, as well as a two page Summary Brochure
bulletcreated a Nitrate in your Groundwater Traveling Display to set up at public meetings and events
bulletwriting groundwater Newspaper Articles for local newspapers
bulletcreating pamphlets for voting booths
bulletcreating placemats for restaurants
bulletdeveloping this Portage County Groundwater Information and Education Website

 

Membership:

 

Membership on all three subcommittees is open to any interested volunteer who is willing to actively participate in accomplishing the subcommittee's mission and activities. Persons interested in joining a subcommittee should ask the chairperson for permission to join. Current membership consists of about 15 members on the GMPI and PIE Subcommittees.

 

Member Duties:

Member duties include attending meetings prepared, reviewing/approving minutes, participating in accomplishing mission and activities, and recruiting new members.

 

Meetings:

 

The Public Involvement and Education Subcommittee usually holds joint meetings with the Groundwater Management Plan & Implementation Subcommittee every two-three weeks at 4:30pm at the Portage County Courthouse Annex (1462 Strongs Avenue, Stevens Point).

Meetings are open to the public, so please join us and learn what we are doing to help manage groundwater.
