Mission Statement: Portage County Solid Waste Department

Our mission is to protect and preserve the county, state and world environment by:
- Ensuring that the citizens of Portage County , Wisconsin, have reliable, affordable and safe solid waste disposal and recycling options,
and providing an economically sound alternative to privately owned operators
- Assisting member municipalities to ensure their best interests are protected, their needs are met, and their concerns are addressed
- Acting as good neighbors to those who live near our facilities,
while keeping associated waste facility concerns to a minimum
- Broadly disseminating solid waste and recycling information
- Providing educational tools to encourage citizens to "reduce, reuse and recycle"
- Continuing to grow, change and prosper within an
ever-evolving solid waste industry.

NEW 2010 price changes!
As of 1-1-
2010, due to increases in the state of Wisconsin
2009-2011 budget, prices for
items brought to the transfer facility have changed.

Pharmaceutical Drop-off Boxes -
Safely Dispose of
Unused Medicines! County
residents have two permanent drop-off sites for unwanted and unused pharmaceuticals.

Batteries:
All batteries to be recycled must be packaged for transportation in
a manner that
prevents fires and explosions. Therefore,
each battery brought to the Transfer Facility for recycling
must be in a separate plastic bag or taped around the terminals/ends with electrician's tape.
Continuous Clean
Sweep closed for the winter season on December 4th! Tentative
resume date is the end of March 2010.
NOTICE:
The Landfill closed May 31, 2007. Waste Disposal and Recycling
services are now located at the
Transfer Facility
in Plover. The
Material Recovery Facility
