Position Summary: (Describe the major responsibilities of this position)
The primary purpose of the job position is to provide assistance in all dietary functions as directed/instructed in accordance with Portage County Health Care Center dietary policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
1. Assists with serving meals on a timely basis.
2. Serve food in accordance with portion control procedures.
3. Serve meals that are appetizing in appearance.
4. Prepare and deliver snacks.
5. Organize and assembles Meals on Wheels with correct portions and diets.
6. Arranges diet cards for tray service.
7. Works on tray line.
8. Document temperatures and report deficiencies.
9. Delivers carts and returns to kitchen when empty.
10. Cleans and sanitizes work areas.
11. Acquires raw vegetables and fruits as instructed by cooks.
12. Dishwashing-Scrapes, rinses, washes, and stacks dishes and silverware.
13. Cleans and sanitizes pots and pans.
14. Sweeps and wet washes kitchen floor daily.
15. Assists in maintaining food storage areas in a clean and proper order.
16. Assists in food preparation for special events, etc.
17. Changes menu board daily.
18. Does related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of sanitation and health standards.
2. Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures.
3. Knowledge of portion size and control.
4. Knowledge of regular and therapeutic menus.
5. Knowledge of operational procedures related to kitchen equipment, i.e. dishwasher, etc.
6. Ability to perform within allotted time frame.
7. Ability to read, write, and to do mathematical computations,
8. Good communication skills both oral and written.
9. Good record keeping skills.
10. Ability to work in unison with dietary staff.
Physical Requirements:
1. Must be able to move entire work shifts.
2. Must be able to lift/carry objects approximately up to 50 pounds throughout the day.
3. Must be able to push/pull objects approximately up to 300 pounds throughout the day.
4. Must be non-allergic to a variety of soaps, cleaning compounds, etc.
5. Must be able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents and personnel.
6. Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
Working Conditions:
1. Must be able to perform repetitive tasks.
2. Must work flexible hours beyond normal hours. Example: early/late shifts – week days - weekends when necessary.
3. May be exposed to hot/cold temperatures. Example: Entering freezer, dishwashing area, etc.
4. Stands, bends, lifts and moves during all working hours.
5. Is subject to frequent interruptions.
6. Exposure to sharp instruments and power driven equipment.
7. Hands exposed to water, cleaners, and sanitizers.
8. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, and odors throughout the work day.
9. Attends educational meetings.
10. Maintains a liaison with other departments.
Specific Requirements:
1. Must be able to read, write and speak in an understandable manner.
2. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
3. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
4. Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with residents, family members and visitors, etc.
5. Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, work areas for sanitation, order, safety, and proper performance of assigned duties.
6. Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
Miscellaneous:
1. Adheres to policies, dress code, i.e. hair net, white uniforms and shoes.
2. Knows and follows fire and disaster plans.
3. Attends departmental meetings and in-service as scheduled.
4. Adheres to Infection Control and Universal Precaution policies and procedures when performing daily tasks.
5. Reports all accidents/incidents as written by Department Policies.
Personal Function:
1. Develop and maintain a good working rapport within the department as well as other departments to assure that food service can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
