Personal Visits (Friends and Family)
Inmates at the Portage County Jail may visited by friends and family using our video visitation system. Visitation may be conducted remotely, meaning from your home or practically anywhere else, or you may choose to visit them on-site at the Jail. In person "face-to-face" visits are no longer conducted in order to enhance the safety, security, and efficiency of the facility.
Proper conduct and decorum are required during your visit. All non-attorney visits are subject to recording and monitoring. Any violation of jail rules or law will be prosecuted, and future visitation privileges may be lost.
For more information refer to the Inmate Rules Handbook.

On-site Visitation at the Jail
Visitation may also be conducted at the Portage County Jail using two video visitation booths that are provided free of charge. Use of this system requires scheduling a visit at www.VideoVisitAnywhere.com. On-site visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Traditional "face-to-face" visits have been discontinued. It is highly recommended that you provide an email address so that you can be sent a reminder notice of the visit, and also an email in case the scheduled visit must be changed or cancelled. Scheduling visitation over the phone has also been discontinued.
On-site visitation times are limited to:
Tuesday: Noon to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Wednesday: Noon to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Thursday: Noon to 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
There is no on-site visitation on legal holidays. All visits are subject to cancellation without notice due to the safety, security, and operational needs of the facility.

“Professional visits" are those visits that are conducted by lawyers, counselors, probation agents, etc. for authorized purposes.
These may occur Monday through Friday from:
8:30 AM to 11:30 AM
12:30 PM to 4:30 PM
Professional visits are not accepted around meal times. All visits are subject to cancellation or delay without notice due to the safety, security, and operational needs of the facility. In these cases, every effort will be made to reschedule your visit.
Professional visits from attorneys and other professionals have now been moved from the previous "close contact" visits, to a face-to-face secure "non-contact" format. This was done for the safety and security of the Jail and those individuals visiting the inmates. Professional visitors will be allowed to visit with inmates using a secure visitation booth. A document pass-through feature will be unlocked to facilitate the exchange of authorized papers as needed. Probation and Parole agents are still allowed into the facility. For everyone else, there are no longer any close contact visits allowed.
Remote Video Visitation
Attorneys may also use the video visitation system to make confidential visits with your client. Go to www.VideoVisitAnywhere.com, and click on the "Sigh Up" button. Select "Attorney" as the user type. You will be asked to provide a picture of yourself, a government issued ID, and your Bar ID which will be reviewed and approved by the corrections staff. These private sessions will not be recorded or monitored.
