Date/Time:

Sheriff Sales are conducted Monday mornings at 10:00am (except holidays).

Location:

The front lobby of the Portage County Courthouse, 1516 Church St, Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

Payment:

A 10% down payment is required at the time of sale. Payment must be made in cash or certified check payable to the Portage County Clerk of Courts. Personal Checks will not be accepted. NO EXCEPTIONS.  The successful bidder will not be allowed to leave and come back with the deposit later that day. If they do not have the certified funds with them, the property will go to the next highest bidder. Successful bidders will then be escorted to the Clerk of Courts Office to make payment.  Third-Party bidders will be required to submit a completed, notarized Eligible Third-Party Bidder Affidavit to the Clerk of Courts at time of payment.  See below "For Third-Party Bidders" for information on this form.

 

Other Information:

A designee of the Sheriff conducts the sale. The sale is in the form of an auction. The highest bidder is awarded the property. Bidders must provide personal identification to identify themselves.

Any questions regarding the property should be directed to the attorney listed on the notice. It is the responsibility of the bidder to check for back taxes, liens, judgments, etc. that are attached to the property.

 

For Third-Party Bidders - Effective 10/1/2018:

“Third-party bidder” means a person that intends to submit a bid at a sale of mortgaged premises and that is not any of the following:

846.155(1)(c)1. 1. A party in the foreclosure action.

846.155(1)(c)2. 2. An agent of a party in the foreclosure action.

846.155(1)(c)3. 3. An assignee of the plaintiff in the foreclosure action.

All eligible third-party bidders must complete a CV-550, Eligible Third-Party Bidder Affidavit, and have notarized, before being allowed to bid on ANY Sheriff Sale.  This will have to be completed PRIOR to the day of the sale.  Bidder will be required to show signed affidavit before being allowed to place a bid per Wisconsin State Statue 846.155.  Forms will be available at the Clerk of Courts, on the Clerk of Courts webpage, or can be accessed by clicking this link CV-550 Eligible Third-Party Bidder Affidavit.

Copies Needed:

* Original plus one (1) copy if property is located in the City of Stevens Point. * Original plus two (2) copies if property is located outside of the City of Stevens Point limits.

Scheduling a Sale:

Please schedule sales on Mondays at 10:00 a.m. (except holidays) approximately six weeks in advance, so we can meet the posting requirements.

Submitting a Bid:

We accept faxed bids. Please fax these bids to us by 3:00 p.m. on the Friday prior to the sale to (715) 346-1666.

Adjournment Fees for Attorneys:

* Sale adjourned less than 2 weeks - no additional fee
* Sale adjourned more than 2 weeks - $150 re-posting fee needed with reposting of notice
